Glossary
A comparison of two common hand moisturizer formats and a superior natural alternative. Hand creams are thicker, richer emulsions designed for targeted hand use. Lotions are thinner, lighter emulsions for general body use. Beeswax-based lotion bars deliver the most concentrated, long-lasting hand protection because they contain no water dilution.
Hands are the most environmentally stressed part of the body. They are washed more frequently than any other body part, exposed to detergents, sanitizers, hot water, sun, wind, and friction throughout the day. Despite this, the skin on the back of the hands is thin and has fewer sebaceous glands than facial skin, making it particularly vulnerable to dryness and aging.
This combination of high stress and low natural protection means hands need a more robust moisturizer than the rest of the body. A light body lotion that works fine on forearms and legs may be completely inadequate for heavily washed, environmentally exposed hands.
Traditional hand creams provide temporary relief but require frequent reapplication because they are 60-70 percent water that evaporates quickly. Lotion bars, made entirely of beeswax, shea butter, and cocoa butter, deliver 100 percent active moisturizing ingredients with no water to evaporate.
The beeswax component creates a protective, water-resistant barrier that survives several handwashings rather than being immediately removed. This persistent protection is why many customers keep a lotion bar by the kitchen sink, in the car, and in their work bag: one quick application after washing provides hours of protection that lotion cannot match.
The beeswax barrier created by a lotion bar typically provides moisture protection through 2-3 handwashings before reapplication is needed. A traditional hand cream or lotion is largely removed after a single wash. This persistence is the primary advantage of beeswax-based hand care.
Our lotion bars absorb within 30 seconds, leaving a protective but non-greasy feel. The key is applying the right amount: warm the bar with body heat and apply a thin layer. You should be able to use your phone and handle paperwork within a minute of application.
Yes. The concentrated moisture of a lotion bar applied to cracked hands at bedtime (possibly with cotton gloves worn overnight) can dramatically improve cracking within a few days. The beeswax seals in moisture while the shea butter and cocoa butter deliver vitamins and fatty acids that support skin repair.
