Glossary
A thick, rich, water-free moisturizer made from natural butters and oils. Unlike commercial lotions that are primarily water, body butters deliver concentrated hydration with every application. Our body butter uses beeswax, shea butter, and coconut oil.
Flip over any bottle of mainstream body lotion and read the ingredients. Water is listed first, meaning it is the primary ingredient by volume. After water comes a series of emulsifiers to blend the oil and water phases, synthetic preservatives to prevent the water from growing bacteria, thickeners to give the mixture body, and fragrance to make it smell appealing. The actual moisturizing oils and butters? They typically make up less than 10% of the product.
Body butter takes the opposite approach. There is no water in the formula. Every ingredient is an active moisturizer: shea butter provides deep hydration and anti-inflammatory benefits, coconut oil penetrates the outer layers of skin, and beeswax creates a breathable occlusive layer that seals everything in. No water means no need for preservatives. No emulsifiers. No thickeners. What you feel on your skin is 100% nourishment.
Body butter is best applied right after a shower, when your skin is warm and slightly damp. The warmth helps the butter melt on contact, and the residual moisture on your skin gets locked in by the occlusive beeswax layer. Scoop a small amount (about the size of a nickel for each leg, for example) and rub it between your palms until it softens, then massage it into your skin.
A common mistake is using too much. Because body butter is so concentrated, a little goes much further than you would expect from a water-based lotion. Start small and add more if needed. The butter absorbs within a few minutes, leaving skin feeling soft and smooth without a greasy residue.
Body butter excels on areas prone to severe dryness: elbows, knees, heels, and hands. It is also excellent as an overnight foot treatment: apply generously to your feet before bed, pull on cotton socks, and wake up to noticeably softer skin. Customers going through harsh dry winters or dealing with skin conditions like eczema often find that switching from commercial lotion to body butter makes a visible difference within the first week.
Quality body butter absorbs within a few minutes of application, especially when applied to warm, slightly damp skin after a shower. Our body butter uses beeswax as the occlusive base, which sets into a thin, non-greasy protective layer rather than sitting on the surface.
We recommend our Silken Glow Facial Balm for facial skin, as it is formulated with lighter oils like argan and jojoba that are better suited for the more sensitive and thinner skin on the face. Body butter is best for body skin.
A 4-ounce jar of body butter typically lasts 2 to 3 months with regular use. Because the formula is water-free and concentrated, you use significantly less per application than you would with a commercial lotion.
